Parents and Carers Area: Welcome

Your role as a parent

Parents are members of our setting who have full participatory rights.

These include a right to be:
• Valued and respected
• Kept informed
• Consulted
• Involved
• Included at all levels.

As a community based, voluntary managed setting, we also depend on the good will of parents and their involvement to keep going. Membership of the setting carries expectations on parents for their support and commitment.

Parents and Carers Area: About Us

Consumables Charge

Wivenhoe Preschools has a consumable charge of £1.50 per day for funded children.

Early Years Funding is intended to cover the cost to deliver 15 or 30 hours of free, high quality, flexible childcare. It does not cover consumables & materials, With the impact of covid, the living Wage rates, food and general running costs for the Early Years Sector many settings charge parents for Additional services not covered by the Early Years Funding.

To enable us to sustain ourselves and provide an enriching environment for the children in our care this is something that we also incorporate.

It in part covers the cost of:

  • snacks

  • extra-curricular activities (i.e. yoga, music and movement)

  • Themed craft and resources

  • cooking ingredients

  • online learning journey

  • sun cream

  • trips

  • visits from outside educational companies (i.e. zoo lab, farm animals)

  • seasonal events (i.e. sports day, Christmas party with Santa visit, parent picnic days)

Please note this list is not exhaustive. Without your help with these costs, we would not be able to provide these additional activities and resources for your children. This helps towards us being able to give your child the best quality experience they can have whilst they are with us. Should you have a cause for concern in relation to making this payment, please do speak to a member of the management team.

Snacks and Meals

The setting makes snacks and meals a social time at which children and adults eat together.

Children are required to bring a lunch box for their session.  We encourage healthy eating with fruit and vegetables being particularly important.

An average healthy lunch for most of our children includes:

  • a small roll or sandwich (pitta bread and wraps are popular)

  • a pot of crudities (pepper, cucumber, carrot sticks or tomatoes)

  • a small crisp bag

  • a piece/pot of fruit

  • a yoghurt

  • bottle of water or fruit juice

If you give your child a biscuit or cake we will try to encourage them to eat their savoury food or fruit first. Please do not bring chocolate bars, sweets or nuts.

The Pre School provides milk at snack time and fresh water is available at all times.

The school is currently a nut free setting. Do tell us about your child’s dietary needs and we will make sure that these are met.
